To achieve the most ambitious aims of the Paris Climate Agreement—
limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C and reaching
net-zero emissions by 2050—Trivium Packaging has signed an official
commitment with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
These reduction targets will involve SBTi’s criteria and recommendations
and Trivium’s value chain; energy, gas and water consumption;
waste; volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and eco-designed
products with higher recycled content, easier recyclability and
reduced weight.
RB announced that it has rebranded as Reckitt. The new corporate
identity is part of the organization’s transformation towards
sustainable growth. Reckitt was originally created in 1999 when
multinational consumer goods
company Reckitt & Colman merged
with Dutch company Benckiser. The
rebranding, with help from Conran
Design Group, includes a new name
and logo, an evolved color palette
with “Energy Pink” as the primary color, custom typography and
new photography. The new branding will be rolled out over three

Can forming and decorating company Belvac has invested an undisclosed
sum to expand its two-piece can pilot line to test container
concepts. The addition includes 40,000 sq ft of manufacturing and
assembly capacity at its Bedford County, VA site to meet continued
demand for equipment such as trimmers, neckers and decorators to
create specialty-shaped aerosol containers and two-piece aluminum
beverage cans. The pilot line can also be used to test coatings, inks
and material light-weighting. In the near future, Belvac expects to
offer low-volume manufacturing of finished containers for market
testing. The expansion will boost Belvac’s workforce 15%.
Colep has announced its intention to split its businesses into two
new entities—Colep Packaging and Colep Consumer Products—due
to the operational and strategic differences between the businesses
and the need for agility in the marketplace. The changes are effective
July 1, including the promotions of Colep CEO Vitor Neves to

Chairman; Packaging Division Managing Director Paulo Sousa to
CEO of Colep Packaging; and Consumer Products Division Managing
Director Pierfranco Accardo to CEO of Colep Consumer
Products. Colep’s Healthcare Division will become part of Colep
Consumer Products and will run autonomously under Managing
Director Christian Schmidt. The RAR Group will remain the
100% shareholder of Colep’s new entities.

Market research firm Euromonitor International has launched the
Product Claims and Positioning system that tracks more than 150
clean, ethical and dietary labels to identify top product claims across
40 countries and 11 industries, such as personal care, hygiene, alcoholic
drinks, pet food, soft drinks, tobacco, etc. From ethical claims
like cruelty-free to dietary claims like gluten-free, Euromonitor said
its new data system can be used to reveal trends, identify opportunities
within a given industry and track specific companies or brands.
Hydrocarbon aerosol propellant manufacturer Propysol S.A. de C.V.
has invested an undisclosed sum to construct and open a new plant in
Tlaxcala, Mexico. Located in between Mexico City and the Port of Veracruz
at the Xaloztoc Petrochemical Park, the plant is regulatory compliant
and will boost Propysol’s growth, market diversification and risk management,
the company said.
CarnaudMetalbox Engineering (CMbE) has nearly doubled the
capacity of its Leeds, UK plant to 298,000 sq ft to help meet demand.
The recent addition, called Unit 12, will perform the assembly, testing and
dispatch of the company’s products and will allow CMbE to expand its
in-house manufacturing capabilities.
