The Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), has teamed up with
BASF and Givaudan to validate the Kinetic Direct Peptide
Reactivity Assay (Kinetic DPRA), a testing method that predicts
skin sensitization, addresses needs of toxicologists and regulators
and avoids the need for animal testing. The validation project, designed
by BASF and Givaudan, will be conducted in 2018 and, if
successful, would be submitted to the Organization for Economic
Cooperation & Development (OECD) in 2019. Other participating
laboratories include The Procter & Gamble Co., Charles

A demonstration plant for technology to produce chemicals from
sunlight will be built at Delfzijl, the Netherlands by AkzoNobel
Specialty Chemicals and partner firm Photanol BV. The companies
formed a partnership in 2014 to jointly work on a technology
using cyanobacteria that mimics the way plants use photosynthesis
to produce chemical building blocks such as organic acids from
carbon dioxide. These have applications in personal care products,
biodegradable plastics and as intermediates for the chemical
industry.
Arcade Beauty, in partnership with Drom Fragrances, has
launched SamplingMadeSimple.com, a website that enables indie
brands to produce small quantities of fragrance samples, between
1,000–5,000 fragrance vials and/or vials-on-card. SamplingMadeSimple.
com was created to serve as a one-stop-destination for
niche brands seeking to produce small batches at an affordable
price point. Customers can upload artwork onto a card, add a
label to the vial, select between a spray or plug vial and then send
their fragrance solution to Arcade Beauty. After approximately
four to five weeks, the vials will be delivered in conveniently packaged
sleeves.
