Spray October 2016

Spray Patterns AVA CARIDAD Editorial Director A recycling campaign in the UK is urging residents to recycle household items that they often miss such as aerosol cans, perfume or aftershave bottles and toilet roll tubes. Recycle Week, which took place in September, focused on the increase in recycling of these often overlooked items. The “unusual suspects” include items in the bathroom or bedroom, such as aluminum deodorant and air freshener aerosol cans; spray cleaners; toothpaste boxes; plastic shampoo, shower gel and moisturizer bottles; dishwashing liquid bottles; soap dispensers and bleach bottles. Residents were reminded, however, that spray triggers and pump tops cannot currently be recycled. Editors note: So remove them first! The campaign was launched by Gloucestershire Waste Team and was supported by Cotswold District Council (CDC), who determined that if everyone in the UK recycled one more aluminum aerosol can, enough energy could be saved to vacuum more than 480,000 homes for a year. 46 Spray October 2016 The New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) announced that its 38th Annual Suppliers’ Day will take place May 2–3, 2017 in a new location, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. All under one roof, occupying contiguous space, the 2017 NYSCC Suppliers’ Day will provide the thousands of cosmetic and personal care manufacturers based in the tri-state area, and growing national and international contingencies, an accessible, convenient and efficient trade show and conference venue, according to the chapter. “A venue closer to the hub of our industries’ product development and marketing, as well as one more accessible for all participants was most requested as an improvement to the event,” said Rey Ordiales, Chair of the NYSCC Executive Board. “The Javits Center space presents us with the opportunity to make the show more conducive for learning, sourcing and networking, which are all key objectives of our attendees. All this will be in a prime location with the added benefit of being the most cost-effective option available to our supplier members.” In addition to two days of exhibits and education, NYSCC will offer an expanded educational program. New features, added exhibitor value and show experience enhancements will be announced in the coming months. More info: www.NYSCC.org or suppliersday@nyscc.org. The results are in and TricorBraun’s consumer research focus groups reveal parents’ perceptions of foam dispensing technology as quick to lather, clean, convenient, effective, fun and above all, kid-friendly. Package stability via a wider base, a wide finger pad and a locking mechanism are among the most desirable functional drivers of working and stay-at-home mothers. The popularity and perceived benefits of foam dispensing are viewed as highly transferable from one category to another category, such as hand soap, baby wash, pet soap and facial cleansers. Given all of the dynamics of personal care, consumers have continued to embrace technology such as foam dispensing, which further drives innovation in packaging. While packaging preferences for traditional non-foaming, foaming and squeeze foam dispensers were looked at with a number of different types of personal care products, foamers for use with babies and children was clearly a favorite. According to Becky Donner, TricorBraun Senior VP of Design & Engineering, “It’s no longer enough to just be noticed on the shelf; the functionality of the product must be well thought out and designed to create the best experience possible.” Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. announced it has reached the milestone of 500 million meals donated through its Nourish the Children initiative since its founding in 2002. The initiative applies business principles to address the plight of childhood hunger in a sustainable manner. Nu Skin sales leaders, customers and employees can purchase VitaMeal, a nutrient-dense food, and then donate it to a thirdparty nonprofit organization that specializes in distributing relief to those suffering from malnutrition and famine in 50 countries. “Reaching such a significant milestone is a testament to the compassion and generosity of Nu Skin’s sales team, customers and employees and to the collective good we can do,” said Steven Lund, Executive Chairman of The Board & Executive Director of Nourish the Children. “Not only do the contributions feed hungry children, but they increase opportunities for learning and bring hope to those individuals and nations in need.”
