People in the News SC Johnson closed on its previously announced acquisition of Westbury, New York-based baby product manufacturer Babyganics for an undisclosed price. SC Johnson plans to continue operating Babyganics as a standalone business. L’Oréal announced it has finalized the acquisition of IT Cosmetics, which will become part of the Luxe Division of L’Oréal. Less than a week after Unilever completed its acquisition of Dollar Shave Club, it announced on Aug. 16 an agreement to buy Blueair, a Stockholm, Sweden-based maker of indoor air purifying systems for homes and businesses with $106 million in 2015 sales. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Berry Plastics Group, Inc. and AEP Industries Inc. entered into a definitive merger agreement that Berry will acquire all of the outstanding shares of AEP in a cash and stock transaction. VariBlend announced the closing of a multi-million dollar equity financing with Matin Crane Collaboration Fund LLC (MCC), according to company President & CEO, Robert Brands. The financing, which includes an additional infusion of equity from existing shareholders, also provides for additional capital injections in the future, which will support the company’s continued development of dual dispensing solutions, such as the recently launched 20mm MiniMix. In addition, it will further support VariBlend’s global sales network of distributors and independent sales representatives, which recently expanded into India, Israel, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Hallstar announced that it has acquired bioactive ingredient supplier Olèos. Located in Montpellier, France, Olèos’s proprietary oleo eco-extraction technology produces natural, sustainable and clinically proven bioactive compounds for cosmetic applications including anti-aging qualities, dark spot diminishment and skin whitening, according to the company. Tony Brealey of Reabrook Limited has been appointed Vice Chairman of the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA). Brealey has been a member of the BAMA Executive Committee since October 2015 and Brealey is the Chairman of the Commercial & Planning Committee. The Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. announced the appointment of Andrew Ross to the role of Senior VP, Strategy & New Business Development. Ross succeeds Peter Jueptner, who has been appointed President, Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Ross will join the company’s Executive Leadership Team and report jointly to Fabrizio Freda, President & CEO, and Tracey Travis, CFO & Executive VVP, Global Finance & Strategy. Gary Woeste has accepted the role of Senior VP, Commercial, for Ball Corp. Food & Aerosol Division. Woeste has been VP, Sales & Marketing in North America since 2009. Holly Georgiton was promoted to VP, Tinplate Sales of Food & Aerosol Division. Georgiton has been Director, Global Accounts North America, since 2010 and has more than 31 years’ experience in sales and key account management. John Saalwachter is now the Director of Business Development for the Food & Aerosol Division. Additionally, Jared Cameron will now be Ball Corp.’s Director of National Sales, Tinplate Aerosol. Ashland Inc. announced that Dr. Osama Musa, VP Global Research & Development (R&D), has been promoted to the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer. Saalwachter Cameron He also assumes leadership responsibility for Advanced Materials. Centerchem has appointed Nina Esposito as the newest Account Manager to the Personal Care division. Esposito comes from Pride Chemical Solutions and will be responsible for the New England region, much of New York, as well as Georgia and Tennessee. CPL Aromas announced the appointment of Yousef Yasmineh as the company’s new General Manager for CPL Aromas Dubai. Yasmineh joins the company from Givaudan, where he held the position of area sales manager for the Middle East & North African market. Parlux Fragrances, LLC named Dominic Pisani Senior VP of Sales. Most recently, Pisani served as Senior VP of Sales for Coty. Prior to that he held senior management positions at Chanel, Christian Dior, Lancaster and Revlon. October 2016 Spray 35 Mergers & Acquisitions Woeste Georgiton OBITUARY Elisabeth “Betsy” van Duren Gilroy died Aug. 30, 2016. She was VP of Summit Packaging Systems, Manchester, NH. She was born in New Rochelle, NY in 1959 and grew up in Chappaqua, NY, graduating from the University of New Hampshire. Gilroy spent several years in the Netherlands establishing the company there, where she met and married her husband Joop van Duren. She is the daughter of Gordon and Elisabeth Gilroy, mother of Amanda, Emily and Sander and sister of Scott Gilroy. She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon “Chip” Gilroy.
