Along with my fellow Board Members at the Midwest Aerosol Association, we are
proud to be moving forward with an exciting agenda this year! The MAA prides
itself on offering a variety of events that include education, entertainment and
networking opportunities at an affordable cost to our membership. This year’s schedule
of events will incorporate all of this.
The MAA plans to have several members attend the Aerosol Summit Meeting in
Nashville, TN in March. We feel this is a great opportunity to get together as an industry
and we look forward to building on this collaboration for future events.
Our Annual Spring Dinner Meeting will be held on April 19 at Cooper’s Hawk in
Arlington Heights, IL. Speakers will include Emerson Automation Solutions, presenting
on leak detection systems that do not require a water bath. Bill Strauss, a senior
economist and economic advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago will also be
presenting on the Midwest manufacturing sector for use in monetary policy. We will
have a cocktail hour prior to the sit-down dinner. This is a great way to network with
your fellow industry peers!
The MAA has agreed to collaborate with the Household & Commercial Products Association,
formerly CSPA, on our annual golf outing, to be held on Aug.14 at the Seven
Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge, IL. The HCPA will be hosting an Aerosol Symposium
on Wednesday, Aug. 15 and an Aerosol Propellant Safety Seminar on Thursday, Aug. 16
at the Marriott in Oakbrook, IL. The registration for these events will be separate, but
you will be able to find the links at either MAA or HCPA websites. More information
for this event will be available in the coming months.
With the Aerosol Summit Meeting taking place in the Spring, the MAA board
decided to move its Continuing Aerosol Education Series to the Fall. We are currently
in the early planning stages for this meeting, but have an exciting tentative lineup already
in the works. With other regional associations hosting Aerosol 101 events, the MAA has
successfully implemented its Continuing Aerosol Education Meeting, considered to be
more of an Aerosol 201 educational opportunity. Keep an eye out for more information
on this event later in the year.
As part of our commitment to education, the MAA sponsors Aerosol Can Races that
take place in the middle of the 6th inning at the Schaumburg Boomers minor league
baseball home games in Illinois. Fans are selected from the audience and wear costumes
representing Sunscreen, Insect Repellent and Shave Cream. Prior to the start of each
game, the MAA sponsors an anti-huffing message on the video billboard from the Alliance
for Consumer Education. The message is directed at parents of teens and pre-teens
and is presented by a member of the Boomers team.
I encourage all of you to get involved with your regional and national associations. My
goal as President of the MAA is to grow our association and continue to collaborate with
the other regional and national associations whenever possible. In the words of Chicago
Bears great Walter Payton, “We are stronger together than we are alone.”
