Beiersdorf has invested an additional $5 million in
Korean skin care tech startup LYCL Inc. The investment
will support LYCL’s digital business model,
growth plan and joint value. LYCL’s co-investor is
LOTTE Corp. Beiersdorf first invested in LYCL Inc.
in December 2019 after it graduated the NX NIVEA
Accelerator program.
The Hut Group (THG) has purchased skin care brand
Perricone MD for $60 million. Founded in 1997 by
Dr. Nicholas Perricone, Perricone MD has approximately
100 patents for scientifically-developed topical
skin care products and touts no animal testing, clean
ingredients and gluten-free formulations. THG said it
plans to launch Perricone MD on its THG Ingenuity
technology platform, a comprehensive global program
to develop, manufacture and market products.
Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc.’s Beauty Systems Group (BSG)
subsidiary has acquired La Maison Ami-Co Inc., a Quebec-based
professional beauty products distributor. The transaction includes 10
La Maison Ami-Co stores, 17 direct sales consultants and exclusive
distribution rights to sell hair color and hair care brands such as
Wella Professional, Goldwell and Oribé in Quebec. Financial terms
of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition will expand BSG’s
operations throughout Quebec and will increase BSG’s professional
beauty product offerings in its existing Chalut store network.
Perrigo Co. plc is acquiring three Eastern
European O-T-C skin care and hair loss
treatment brands from Sanofi, including
Emolium, Iwostin and Loxon. Terms of
the deal were not disclosed. For the year
ending June 30, sales of these products were
approximately €21 million ($23 million).
Perrigo stated the merger will enhance and
expand its Consumer Self-Care International’s
(CSCI) growth plans, skin care franchise
and Eastern European business.
Sun Chemical and its parent company DIC
Corp. have acquired Seller Ink Industria e
Comércio de Tintas e Vernizes Ltda. for an
undisclosed sum. Seller Ink is based in São
Paulo, Brazil and has more than 25 years of experience in both the
metal decorating and security ink markets. The acquisition will boost
Sun Chemical’s offerings in Latin America, said the company.
Aptar Pharma and Chinese digital respiratory therapeutics company
Sonmol are partnering to develop a digital platform for therapies
and services targeting respiratory diseases. The collaboration, which
will initially focus on connected drug delivery devices for asthma and
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), will help bolster
Aptar’s digital health offerings in Asia and expand Sonmol’s software
development and remote patient services. Financial terms of the
partnership were not revealed, however Aptar Pharma indicated it
made a strategic equity investment in Sonmol.
Thyssenkrupp Industrial SolutionsAG and BASF SE have signed a
joint development agreement to expand their cooperation on thyssenkrupp’s
STAR process, which uses a catalyst to produce propylene
from propane feedstocks, or isobutylene from isobutane feedstocks.
Financial terms were not revealed.
Univar Solutions has expanded a distribution agreement
with Biosynthetic Technologies. In addition to the U.S.,
Univar will now distribute the BioEstolides product line
in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Although terms
of the deal were not revealed, Univar will market, sell,
warehouse and support BioEstolide for the personal care
market in these regions.
Blackstone Tactical Opportunities has acquired
a majority stake in ZO Skin Health, a
California-based skin care brand sold through
physicians and skin care professionals. ZO
Skin Health was founded in 2007 by Dr. Zein
Obagi, who plans to grow the brand further
on a global basis. Terms of the deal were not
revealed.
Korean lifestyle and culture firm Shinsegae International
has acquired skin care brand Swiss Perfection, based in
Switzerland, for an undisclosed sum. The deal immediately
followed Shinsegae International’s move to shed
50% of its equity holding in Shinsegae Intercos Korea
Inc. to Italy’s Intercos for $17.22 billion.
Desire Fragrances Inc. and Italian fashion designer and
former tennis star Sergio Tacchini have formed a new partnership.
The licensing and distribution deal involves the development, launch
and expansion of the Sergio Tacchini fragrance lines for men and
women into more than 20 new markets, including Germany, the UK
and the U.S. The brand’s packaging and product selection are also
expected to get a revamp. Financial terms were not revealed.
Skin care brand Olay from P&G is partnering with
Shopee, an E-commerce platform in Southeast Asia
and Taiwan, to reach and engage with digital-savvy
millennials in Southeast Asia with the launch of the
“Adult Fearlessly” campaign. The campaign seeks to
empower millennial women in their transition to
adulthood by helping them overcome the perceived
challenges of “adulting” and investing in products
catered to their skin care needs.
The refreshed brand campaign will be held exclusively
on Shopee and rolled out in phases across six
markets including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Spray
