Carlin EZ Burners Listed for B20
All Carlin Residential Oil
Burners manufactured
after Feb. 16, 2021 are UL
Listed for Bio Fuel blends
up to 20% (B20), C. Cowles
& Co. announced. This
move will meet legislation
in the Northeast calling for
aggressive reductions in
carbon emissions and the
ratification of The National Energy & Fuels Institute’s (NEFI)
resolution calling for a 15% reduction in carbon emissions
by 2023. B20 Bio fuel, for which the Carlin burner is now
approved, meets the first target of a 15% carbon reduction,
the company said.
“Many dealers have used B20 blends for years and more
are looking to adopt it soon,” said Richard Lyons, President
of C. Cowles. “For years, Carlin has supported these early
adopters and worked with industry allies to advance this
effort, ultimately leading to the creation of a UL standard
for B20 burners”.
The UL listed B20 burners will be identifiable by new
burner chassis and carton labeling, C. Cowles said. More

NORA & Eurofuel Combining
for 2nd Annual Conference
As the liquid heating fuels industry prepares for its lowcarbon
future, the National Oilheat Research Alliance
(NORA) and the Eurofuels Association will host its second
annual conference titled, Low-Carbon Liquid Heating Fuels:
Putting the Pieces Together
on May 20 & 27, 2021. This
follows last year’s widely
attended Low-Carbon
Liquid Heating Fuels in
a Carbon Constrained
World conference. The 2021
event, presented online, will
feature speakers and topics
with the goal of putting the
pieces in place to answer the questions on transitioning to
low-carbon fuels that were identified during the 2020 event.
Moritz Bellingen, Chairman of Eurofuels, stated, “The
magnitude of the challenges posed by the energy transition
requires a variety of solutions. We cannot afford to exclude
any solutions that have the potential to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions. Low carbon heating liquid fuels are part of
the solution.”
John Huber, NORA’s president, said, “The liquid fuel
heating industries in North America and Europe both face
severe pressures to adapt to low-carbon fuels. By working
together to advance appliance technology and fuels, we
can create and implement successful strategies that will
guarantee our role in the energy sector for generations.”
The first day of the Conference, May 20: Public Policy &
Greenhouse Gas Reductions will review the public policy
actions in some of the states in the U.S. and several countries
of Europe as well as what effect Brexit will have on policy
in the UK. Various mechanisms for encouraging low carbon
fuel use will be addressed including carbon taxes, lowcarbon
fuel standards & mandates as well the push towards
electrification (heat pumps). Additionally, the program will
address how other renewable fuel users (aviation, trucking,
off-road) intersect with the heating industry and are there
any technical/legal obstacles to low carbon liquid fuel use.
The second day, May 27: Technology Advancements—
Are They Positioning Us for a Future? will focus on the
technologies of the fuels themselves and which markets are
they best able to serve, the state of the heating equipment
available and their ability to accommodate low carbon fuels
and meet the efficiency requirements needed. Registration
info to come.
Industry Resource Center Coming
The National Energy Fuels Institute (NEFI) has announced
the launch of a resource tool to aid in the implementation
of the Providence Resolution, an initiative to reduce carbon
emissions from oil heated homes through the rapid adoption
of low-carbon liquid fuel blends—the NEFI Resource Center.
This industry repository will be comprised of blueprint documents,
state specific fact sheets, infographics, press packets
and other material. The Resource Center will be available
to industry stakeholders via a website being developed by
Warm Thoughts Communications who have waived all development
costs to show their commitment to the industry’s
efforts. Expect a launch date in late March 2021.
Carrier New Ductless Systems
Carrier has launched a new Performance Series high
wall ductless system including the 40MAHB indoor unit
and 38MARB outdoor unit, and the multi-poise 40MBAA
air handler. All are fully communicative with wireless
capabilities and sensors. The ductless products provide
homeowners versatility and energy efficiency, as well as
single and multi-zone capabilities, Carrier said.
