T he average car on the road in the U.S. is 11.5
years old, according to a recent automotive survey
by research firm IHS. According to a 2015 article
from USA Today, “The number of vehicles on
the road that are at least 25 years old is about 14
million. That’s up from about 8 million in 2002. Meanwhile, the
number of vehicles that are 16 to 24 years old is 44 million. That’s
up from 26 million in 2002, according to IHS.”
Today’s consumers are keeping their cars longer and are more
aware of the importance of preventive maintenance to maximize
the lifetime value of their vehicles. That very well may be why the
global automotive aftermarket industry is expected to reach $722.8
billion by 2020, according to market research firm The NPD
Group (this number includes aftermarket parts and services as well
as consumer products for automotive care).
According to the Household & Commercial Products Association
(HCPA), there were more than 508 million aerosol products
filled in the U.S. in the Lubricant, Industrial & Automotive
category in 2018.
