Shield Packaging of CA/PLZ Aeroscience in conjunction with National
Aerosol Association (NAA), Personal Care Products Council
(PCPC) and Western Aerosol Information Bureau (WAIB) hosted
an “Aerosol 101” informational event for California Air Resource
Board (CARB) Staff at Shield Packaging’s plant in Chino, CA on
August 28. The event included a plant tour, aerosol component
discussion and demonstrations of various product formulations
and propellants to assist CARB staff in understanding the technical
challenges of reformulation and ensure the industry’s commitment
to work with CARB to achieve environmental mandates during the
current rule-development process.
Industry Professionals who participated included Roger Vanderlaan
of Shield Packaging and WAIB, Doug Raymond of Raymond Regulatory
Resources and NAA, James Jordan of Henkel Beauty Care
and Tom Myer of PCPC. Attendees from CARB included CARB
Enforcement Manager Kitty Oliver, Michelle Lew, Penny Fong, Erin
Szelagowski, Jodi Anderson, Implementation Section Manager Joe
Calavita and Joyce Wong.

Ball Corp. has agreed to sell its tinplate steel aerosol packaging
facilities in Garin and San Luis, Argentina to Envases del Plata
S.A. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Ball will continue
to manufacture aluminum aerosol containers and aluminum slugs
worldwide.
Crown Cork & Seal USA has expanded its Hanover Borough, PA
manufacturing plant’s capacity to relocate one of its food grade metal
can manufacturing lines from Ontario, Canada. The move, which
cost $24.6 million, will create 92 jobs in Pennsylvania. Crown also
received a funding proposal from the Dept. of Community & Economic
Development for a $200,000 Pennsylvania First grant and up
to $24,600 in grants for workforce training and development.
Fragrance house Mugler and DIAM
have partnered to re-launch a fragrance
fountain that is more eco-friendly. The
compact countertop fragrance dispenser,
which contains fragrances Aura, Alien
and Angel, allows in-store filling of
fragrance bottles. It consists of a stainless
steel mast, thinner and corrosionresistant
materials, easily separated
components and a chrome finish. The
shape of the fountain emulates sensual
droplets. The fountain will be installed
major perfumery chains such as
Sephora and Marionnaud.
Toly Products officially opened its new 20,000 square meter manufacturing
plant in Malta and transferred all of the production lines from its
older factory. Toly has operated in the country for nearly 50 years. The
new plant, which cost €20 million ($22.4 million) to build, features stateof
the-art machinery and has an environmentally-friendly focus. The new
plant follows Toly’s investment in new corporate offices and an innovation
center in 2014.

Beiersdorf has invested R$300 million ($73.3 million) to double its
capacity at its Itatiba plant in Brazil, which includes the production
of aerosol deodorants under the Nivea Sem Perfume and Nivea Men
Silver Protect lines, among other products. The company has shuttered
its Argentina plant, according to valor.br.
Precise Packaging now offers cannabidiol (CBD) oil-based formulation
capabilities for the personal care market such as topical acne
and pain-medicated spray and massage oils, body sprays and hair care
products.
Firmenich has expanded its
facility in Istanbul, Turkey
to help boost speed-to-market,
creativity and to serve the
Turkish, European and
Middle-Eastern markets. The
undisclosed investment included
state-of-the-art laboratories,
a creative center for scent and taste innovation and sustainability and
WELL Building Standard considerations.
