Weener Plastics Group has appointed Anthonie Zoomers as Interim
CEO & Board member. Zoomers has 30 years of executive management
experience. Roel Zeevat, who has served as
CEO since July 2013, has left the company.
Charkit Chemical Co. has promoted Panos Yannopoulos
to Executive VP, Sales. He joined Charkit
in 2002, following 13 years with
Aceto, where he served as Group
VP of Industrial Chemicals.
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has named Jacob
Duer as its inaugural President & CEO, effective
Oct. 1. Duer previously served as a Program Director
for the United Nations Environment Programme.
MicroCare has named Finishing
Products Chemist Venesia Hurtubise to the company’s
“40 Under 40” leadership group for 2019. Currently
Hurtubise has three patents pending for high-performance
cleaning fluids designed to meet environmental
regulations. She joined MicroCare in 2014.
Fragrance company Düllberg Konzenta has named
Jörg Brömsen as Key Account Manager for the DACH
region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Brömsen previously held positions
at Symrise, IFF, Artdeco and Douglas. For the past nine years,
Brömsen founded and owned Cosmetic & Fragrance Consultancy to
help guide premium and niche brands in the fragrance, cosmetics and
nutritional supplements sectors.
Henkel has appointed Frank Steinert as Senior VP,
Head of HR North America. He will also serve as
a member of Henkel’s North American Leadership
Team. Prior, Steinert served as Chief HR Officer of
Penguin Random House. He also
held roles at Bertelsmann.
Kiyul Cho has joined the ZoomEssence’s
Technology & Innovation team as Principal
Emulsion Scientist. Cho most recently served as an
Expert of Ingredient Functionality at The Kellogg
Co. and previously, Senior Food Scientist at the
Pulmuone Co.
Obituary
Albert P. Caruso, a pioneer in the manufacture of consumer pepper
sprays, died Aug. 16 in Amherst, NY after a short
illness. He was 85 years old. Caruso began his career
in his father’s shoemaking business, which led him
to design custom leather goods for the Kenmore,
NY Police Dept. In the early 1970s, he devised an
aerosol dispensing system for pepper spray and in
1975 founded Avanti USA Ltd., Tonawanda, NY.
Caruso received 10 patents for his aerosol container
components and was inducted into the American
Society of Inventors in 1980. He was nominated for the annual Western
New York Inventor of the Year Award in 2006 for his patented actuator
for aerosol containers. He remained active in Avanti USA Ltd.
until his death. His wife and sons continue to operate the company.
The Estée Lauder Cos. has appointed Deirdre
Stanley Executive VP & General Counsel, effective
Oct. 28. Stanley most recently served as Executive
VP & General Counsel for The Thomson Reuters
Corp., as well as Chief Legal Officer. Stanley has
also held roles at InterActiveCorp/USA Networks,
Inc., GTE Corp. (now Verizon) and law firm Cravath,
Swaine & Moore. She succeeds Sara Moss,
who was promoted to the newly-created role of Vice
Chairman.
Stéphane Rinderknech has been named President
& CEO of L’Oréal USA, Executive VP North
America and a member of L’Oréal’s Executive
Committee, effective Oct. 1. After joining L’Oréal’s
U.S. Travel Retail business in 2001, he most recently
served as CEO of L’Oréal China. Rinderknech succeeds
Frédéric Rozé.
Mary Kay has appointed Katherine Weng GM for
Mary Kay (China) Co., Ltd. She will be based in
Shanghai. Weng began her career as a Shanghai
Branch & Customer Service Manager for Mary Kay
China in 1995 and most recently served as Senior
Commercial VP.

The Board of Directors of Rite Aid Corp. has
named Heyward Donigan as CEO & Board member. Most recently,
Donigan served as President & CEO of Sapphire Digital (formerly
Vitals). Prior, Donigan held executive roles at ValueOptions, Premera
Blue Cross, Cigna Healthcare, GE, Empire BCBS and U.S.
Healthcare. John Standley has stepped down from his role as CEO
at Rite Aid.
Dr. Anthony Rawlings is the recipient of the Society
of Cosmetic Chemists’ (SCC) Maison G. deNavarre
Medal Award. Rawlings is the Director of AVR
Consulting. The award recognizes his accomplishments
in the cosmetics and personal care industry,
including 30 years of R&D in skin biology and stratum
corneum biochemistry. Rawlings has authored/
co-authored more than 200 technical papers, book
chapters and abstracts and holds more than 50
patents.
The winner of SCC’s inaugural Florence Wall Women in
Cosmetic Chemistry Award is Zoe Diana Draelos. She has authored
14 books, contributed chapters to 38 textbooks,
written 78 posters and 541 published papers,
served as principal investigator on 621 studies,
delivered more than 350 oral presentations and has
contributed to 38 editorial boards. Draelos is a past
member of the Board of Directors of the American
Academy of Dermatology and the American
Society for Dermatologic Surgery and has been
honored by numerous industry organizations for
her contributions to dermatology and advancing the specialty chemicals
industry. The award is sponsored by Concept to Commerce by
Rodan + Fields. Both Rawlings and Draelos will be awarded at SCC’s
73rd Annual Scientific Meeting on Dec. 17 at the Sheraton NY
Times Square.
