AptarGroup, Inc. is partnering with Loop, a global circular shopping
platform from TerraCycle, which delivers consumer products to
homes in reusable containers and totes. Aptar currently provides lotion
pumps for several products in Loop’s online shopping platform.
As part of the agreement, Aptar’s President of Food + Beverage, Marc
Prieur, will sit on Loop’s Advisory Board.
In other news, AptarGroup is partnering with PureCycle Technologies
to launch Ultra-Pure Recycled Polypropylene (UPRP) into
dispensing applications using PureCycle’s patented recycling process
developed and licensed by Procter & Gamble. This process separates
color, odor and any other contaminants from plastic waste feedstock
to transform it into UPRP resin with virgin-like properties.
Recycling center rePlanet has closed all of its 284 centers in California,
resulting in hundreds of layoffs, following massive closures in
2016. Los Angeles-based Consumer Watchdog has called for CALRecycle,
the State agency in charge of recycling, to require the retail
outlets to begin redeeming bottles and cans for cash. This, however,
would require a change in statute. David Lawrence, rePlanet’s President
& CFO, linked the closures to continued reductions in State
fees, depressed pricing of recycled aluminum and PET (polyethylene
terephthalate) plastic and a rise in operating costs, according to the
Orange County Register.
The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) has launched its 2019
Sustainability Report and has identified four goals for companies to
achieve in the next year: increased transparency, reduced emissions,
valuing nature and contributing positively. These goals will be part
of ACI’s “Our Future Is Clean” campaign set to launch during
National Cleaning Week, March 22–28. Examples of meeting these
goals include helping consumers choose the right products through
digital means, meeting third-party human and environmental safety
requirements, chemical footprinting, setting operational greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, initiatives to use cold water
in laundry and joining global alliances to reduce plastic waste.
