Colors & Effects, a BASF brand,
has partnered with One Tree Planted,
a non-profit organization focused on
global reforestation. The personal care
ingredients firm committed to plant
one tree for each completed customer
survey along with a 1:1 company
match. In total, Colors & Effects
donated 1,000 trees on behalf of
customers through this initiative. Each
customer received a personalized certificate
representing the tree planted in
their name in Haiti—a region that will
reap both environmental and societal
benefits from the planting of additional
trees, according to the company.
Recycling of steel packaging in Europe has hit a new all-time high of 82.5%, according to figures
issued by the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (APEAL).
This new record rate, which represents data from 2018, confirms steel as Europe’s most recycled
primary packaging material and means that more than eight out of 10 steel items put on the
EU market that year were recycled into new steel products, according to APEAL..
“A recycling increase of two percentage points sends a clear message to all stakeholders in the
value chain that steel for packaging is a tried, tested and sustainable packaging solution, fit for
a 21st Century circular economy,” said Alexis Van Maercke, Secretary General of APEAL.
“Indeed, we welcomed the European Commission’s ambition to harmonize separate collection
of packaging waste streams in the EU. Separate collection is the best way of guaranteeing highquality
input into recycling operations.”
In 2018, over 4 million tonnes (4.4 million tons) of CO2 were saved through recycling, the
equivalent of taking 870,000 cars off the road for one year, said APEAL. Spray
Mace Security International, Inc.
recently donated a batch of pepper
spray dispensers to ACCESS
Shelter of Akron, OH to be
handed out to its residents who
are often traveling alone on public
transportation.
“ACCESS is so pleased to
receive this generous donation of
personal protection items for our
residents,” said Jackie Hemsworth,
ACCESS Executive Director. “A
great majority of our residents
both walk and ride the bus alone
to their destinations. The Mace
products, along with education
on personal safety, will help to
empower and keep those we serve
safe.”
