NORA manual available online for free Oilheat technicians and students can now access NORA’s entire Oilheat Technicians Manual without payment at NORAweb.org under the “Education” menu tab. The manual, originally released in 2008, is the textbook for the NORA Silver Certification program and contains more than 360 pages of detailed descriptions, procedures and trouble shooting on all topics relating to oilheating. NORA has decided to make the manual available at no cost to students and technicians as part of its mission to, as NORA’s president John Huber said, “Get as much good information into as many hands as possible; as easily as possible.” The manual has already sold more than 12,000 copies in its printed form and is the required textbook for many technical schools’ oilheating curriculum. The manual can also be purchased in its printed and bound version at NORAstore.org. Rollie Technology’s Tank Monitoring Improves Delivery Efficiency William Pierce of Rollie Systems and Charles Brand of Hart & Iliff Fuel & Energy Systems announced the formation of Rollie Technology LLC to bring Rollie’s Intelligent Tank Monitoring technology to the fuel oil and propane delivery markets nationwide. The solution makes use of ultrasonic sound waves and WiFi to precisely measure and report the amount of fuel in a customer’s tank. The technology lowers delivery costs by allowing dealers to optimize the size of their deliveries. Rollie’s Tank Monitoring system is compatible with most back office software providers. New Products... Taco launches hot water recirculation control Taco Comfort Solutions launched SmartPlug, a hot water recirculation control. The SmartPlug upgrades a hot water recirculation system to a “smart” system. SmartPlug technology makes any corded circulator up to 94% more energy efficient by learning hot water usage patterns and delivering hot water only when needed. This helps increase hot water comfort, reduce energy use and helps to extend the life of the hot water heater. Installation is quick and easy and there is no programming or use of timers or aquastats. SmartPlug also offers a “pulse” option for homes or buildings where usage patterns are hard to track. Pulse operation simply recirculates for five minutes every 10 minutes. There’s also a vacation mode. After 36 hours of no hot water use, the SmartPlug automatically turns the pump off. While in vacation mode, the SmartPlug’s “exercise” function will operate the pump for 10 seconds every seven days to prevent scale or corrosion buildup. New indoor air quality monitoring, controlling and purification system Fresh-Aire UV and LUX Products introduced airSMART IAQ system, the industry’s first proactive, integrated indoor air quality monitoring, controlling and purification system for residential applications. The three-component air management system includes an indoor air quality (IAQ) monitor, WiFi-smart thermostat and a whole-house air purification system with on-demand residential HVAC cycling and air cleaning. AirSMART IAQ offers a complete indoor air quality management system to neutralize pollutants such as mold, bacteria, allergens and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in a home’s central air system and indoor environments. The new airSMART IAQ system consists of three connected components designed to work together to help eliminate pollutants and allergens from a home’s air. Navien introduces remote access to water heaters and boilers Navien launched NaviLink, which is designed to support remote access for all Navien tankless water heaters (NPE series), combi-boilers (NCB-E series) and gas condensing boilers (NHB series) through the new NaviLink Wi- Fi control and mobile app. Now, smart phone and tablet owners will be able to control temperatures remotely, access usage data, receive diagnostic notifications and remotely activate recirculation when paired with the HotButton accessory. It is able to report and monitor diagnostic data through the companion app along with error code notification. R.W. Beckett Signs on as First Expo Sponsor for EEE 2017 R.W. Beckett will mark its 80th year in the heating industry as the first announced expo sponsor for the 2017 Eastern Energy Expo (EEE), taking place May 21-25 in Hershey, PA. The Eastern Energy Expo, co-sponsored by the Oil & Energy Service Professionals, the Atlantic Region Energy Expo, and the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association, is the industry’s signature annual event. KPMA launches statewide bioheat campaign The Kentucky Petroleum Marketers Association (KPMA) launched a statewide campaign to promote Bioheat at its third annual Tank & Technical Conference in November.
