Preview of Updates In the upcoming 2016 Emergency Response Guidebook, there will be a number of significant updates, including: • New instructions on page one, including a flow chart to show how to use the 2016 ERG • An expanded Placards Table and updated Table of Markings, Labels and Placards and Initial Response Guide to Use on Scene • An expanded Rail Car Identification Chart and Road Trailer Identification Chart • Updated Tables One and Three, based on new data and reactivity research for materials classified as Toxic or Poisonous by Inhalation (TIH/PIH) • Updated pipeline emergency response information • Added information about the Globally Harmonized System of Classification & Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) pictograms • New dangerous goods and hazardous materials listed in the 19th Revised Edition of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods • Additional information on Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP), which are applicable in Canada The ERG is developed by a committee of industry and government experts and is generally published every four years by DOT PHMSA. It is available in three languages (English, French and Spanish) through a number of industry sources in various forms, including large or small books, spiral bound volumes, CD or as software. You may also be able to download a free electronic copy when it becomes available from PHMSA’s website at http://phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat/library/ erg.
