L’Oréal’s Chairman & CEO Jean-Paul Agon’s
mandate is set to expire when he reaches retirement
age in July 2021. Agon joined L’Oréal in
1978 and has been CEO since 2006. According
to reports, Deputy CEO Nicolas Hieronimus
is considered a top contender to succeed
Agon.
Edgewell Personal Care has restructured its executive
team. Anne-Sophie Gaget, former VP,
Global Strategy & Innovation, has been named
Chief Growth & Innovation Officer. Paul Hibbert, former VP of
Global Operations & Supply Chain, is now Chief Supply Chain
Officer. Nick Powell, former VP of Europe & Latin America, has
been named President, International. The role of COO will be
phased out by Nov. 15 and current COO Colin Hutchison will
leave the company at that time.
The Clorox Co.’s Board of Directors has
elected Linda Rendle as CEO and Member
of the Board, effective Sept. 14. Rendle has
served with Clorox for 17 years, most recently
as President, and prior, Executive VP, Cleaning,
International, Strategy & Operations. Rendle
also hails from Procter & Gamble, where she
held several sales management positions. Former
CEO Benno Dorer will continue to serve
as the Board’s Executive Chair.
The American Cleaning
Institute (ACI) has promoted
former Manager of Government
Affairs Arielle Brown to
Senior Manager, Government
Affairs. Kaitlyn Doherty was
appointed Coordinator, Meetings
& Member Services.
AptarGroup, Inc. has appointed Kimberly
Chainey as Executive VP, Global General Counsel,
as well as a Member of Aptar’s Executive
Committee. Chainey has held senior roles with
firms such as Morgan Lewis, The Hershey Co.,
Avis, and most recently, Panasonic Avionics
Corp.
Fabio Salik has been named President of Rieke,
a division of TriMas. Salik formerly served as
CEO of Americas for Logoplaste, and held prior positions with
Valmari and Rexam’s Beauty & Personal Care
group. Salik succeeds David Pritchett, who is
retiring.
The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC)
has elected Keech Combe Shetty as Board Chair.
Shetty is Executive Chair of Combe Inc. and
serves on other Boards of the PCPC and the
Consumer Healthcare Products Association
(CHPA).
Aluminum packaging recycling organization
Alupro has named Tom Giddings as Sustainability
& Public Affairs Manager. He joins the
organization from packaging company DS Smith.

Steve Caldeira, has also assumed
the role of Chair of the
American Society of Association
Executives’ (ASAE) Board
of Directors.

Obituary
On April 17, Dr. John J. Sciarra of Sciarra Laboratories, Inc.,
Hicksville, NY, passed away at the age of 92. Born in 1927, Sciarra
served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army and
received his BS in Pharmacy from St. John’s
U. in 1951. He received his MS in Pharmacy
from Duquesne U. in 1953 and his PhD in
Pharmacy from the U. of Maryland in 1957.
Dr. Sciarra conducted original research of
the various aspects of aerosol and cosmetic
technology and was an early investigator for
metered dose inhalers and topical aerosol
pharmaceuticals. He was elected a Fellow
of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science, the Academy of
Pharmaceutical Science, American Association of Pharmaceutical
Scientists and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC). In 1974, he
was appointed editor of the Journal of the SCC. He served as SCC
President in 1979 and Chairman of the Board in 1980.
Sciarra was Professor Emeritus of Industrial Pharmacy at the
Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences,
Long Island U. In 1985, he founded the College’s Retail Drug
Institute and served as its President until 1989. From 1957–1976 he
was at St. John’s College of Pharmacy & Allied Health Professions
where he developed graduate programs leading to the MS and PhD
in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He was also on the teaching staff of U.
of Michigan, U. of Maryland, Duquesne and St. John’s. At age 63,
Sciarra founded Sciarra Laboratories, Inc., retiring in 2017.
Among numerous awards for his research, Sciarra received the
Lunsford Richardson Pharmacy Award on two occasions. In 1969
and 1974, he received the NYSCC award for most meritorious research
paper. On more than one occasion he received the Chemical
Specialties Manufacturers Assoc. (now Household & Commercial
Products Assoc.) Research Contest Award. He was also 1983 recipient
of SCC Medal Award and in 1992, was the first recipient of
the Dean’s Award given by the American College of Apothecaries.
In 2006, St. John’s University awarded him the Pietas Medal for
outstanding service to the aerosol and pharmaceutical industries.
Sciarra is survived by his wife Barbara, four sons—Christopher,
John Jay, Gregory and Brian—and five grandchildren.
