Spray September 2016

Commentary This month, Commentary is provided by guest editorialist, Doug Bacile, National Sales Manager, SPRAY. Welcome, ADF-PCD New York… One thing we can always count on is technology changing the way we do business over time. It wasn’t that long ago when the only way to effectively reach your customers was to go see them in person or wait for a trade show. Now, of course, we can communicate with customers and prospects, demonstrate products, negotiate pricing and get written orders from a desktop or a phone, often in less time than it used to take to travel to your first appointment. Sending samples, faxing documents and getting hung up in traffic has been greatly reduced and seldom missed. However, there is one aspect of business that technology can never replace, and that is personal contact. You can learn more about people from meeting them in person for a few minutes than you can from years of emailing or phone calls. That’s where a good trade show comes in, getting everyone to the same place at the same time—which brings us to this month’s inaugural ADF-PCD New York show, added after its successful first 10 years in Paris. So what makes it a good trade show? After all, it’s the first one, how do we know? The main components are a good location, a good list of exhibitors and a solid program. Having had the chance to work with ADF-PCD as a media partner in preparation for the show, and being a native of the New York area, I can vouch for all three. Similar to Cosmoprof taking its international show to North America in 2003, ADF-PCD picked a place people want to go to and brought a successful formula with it. The aerosol industry in North America has some very effective regional associations that go back decades and do a lot of good work, but until now we’ve had to travel overseas for a full blown trade show dedicated to our industry. What better place than New York to come face to face with the best and brightest from around the world in our increasingly global industry? On the pages of SPRAY Technology and at SprayTM.com, we have always strived to be your information source and bring the aerosol world to one place. We are happy to be a media partner with ADF-PCD as they bring personal contact to our mission. Enjoy New York, and don’t leave without a free subscription!
