In November, the HCPA hosted the Aerosol
Propellant Safety Webinar Series to review
information from Aerosol Propellants: Considerations
for Effective Handling in the Aerosol Plant
& Laboratory. Better known as the Propellant
Safety Manual, this tool provides basic safety
needed by all aerosol product manufacturers
and laboratories.
Industry experts presented on topics such
as:
• Shipping, receiving, storing and handling
propellants
• Compressed and soluble gas propellants
• Location, construction, ventilation, gas
detection, electrical equipment, piping
systems and fire and explosion prevention
and control in propellant charging and
pump rooms
• Laboratory safety
• Mechanical integrity inspection recom-
mendations in the propellant tank farm and
propellant charging rooms
• Disposing of rejected aerosol containers
The HCPA thanks the volunteer presenters
who shared their insights and answered
questions from attendees, including Jim
Bloome (R.A Jones), Bob Dittmer (R.A Jones),
Bill Frauenheim (Diversified CPC International),
David Grandaw (IEP Technologies), Gary Okey
(Recycle Aerosol), Alan Petersen (Sensor
Electronics Corp.), Rafal Razowski (Sherwin-
Williams Co.), Mark Robin (The Chemours Co.),
and Randy Slama (Sherwin-Williams Co.).
