FEA Global Aerosol
Award 2020 Winners
Despite FEAerosol 2020 being postponed to Sept. 21–22,
2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the European
Aerosol Federation (FEA) still held its Global Aerosol
Awards in 2020. Suppliers, fillers, brand owners and retailers were
encouraged to present any innovative aerosol products launched
to market between July 2018 and June 2020. And the winners are:
Innovative Product
Winner: L’Oréal—Ushuaia
L’Oréal—in collaboration with Alpla/Austria (container), Coster/
Italy (valve and actuator) and CCL Europe (sleeve)—launched
Ushuaïa, a range of compressed, transparent PET aerosol deodorants.
The compressed
format is designed to
be nomadic. Additionally,
consumers
can see the formula
as a way to reinforce
brand trust as well
as check usage levels.
The sleeve allows
for sophisticated
decoration and easy
identification of
the Vanilla, Orange
flower, Grenada and Orchid fragranced products.
Packaging Element Design
Winner: LINDAL—BAB
LINDAL’s BAB uses the centered Bi-Power Valve instead of two
separate stems. This provides a key differentiator, as
cans do not need to be orientated during filling, eliminating
the need for additional lines. Additionally, consumers
also benefit from the
centered stem,
which allows
a more equal
distribution of
the two formulas
during use; pressure
is applied more evenly,
boosting end user results
and confidence. The valve
accommodates either sprays or
creams that are dispensed in two
streams and mixed together after dispensing,
such as hair highlighters and dyes.
Product Design
Winner: Aerosol Service—Actuo
Actuo is an aerosol actuator that can be operated
using only one hand, without
having to hold the aerosol can. The
design makes product application
easier and helps to keep the product
clean and more hygienic. Actuo fits
almost any can size and can be used for a variety of products in
the form of mousse, foam or gel. The special design ensures that
the aerosol can is kept upright in a stable position when standing
or mounted on a wall. The convenient application may be helpful
for the elderly and disabled.
Prototype
Winner: Coster—GloveOn
GloveOn is a temporary and removable film that both disinfects
and shields hands from the environment when applied to the
skin as a mousse. It dries in approximately 20 seconds, instantly
killing germs and bacteria. The invisible film does not irritate the
skin and can be removed by washing hands with soap.
Sustainable Development
Achievement
Winner: ABAS—“Alcohol 70° Aerosol
for fight against Covid-19” Campaign
The Brazilian Aerosol Association
(ABAS) led a campaign donating free
aerosol hand sanitizers with 70% alcohol
for exclusive use in public health
hospitals. A 150mL travel-sized in an
aluminum can and a 300mL spray
in a steel can (for a total of 300,000
units) were produced for approximately
$800,000 with the participation of 31
companies, large and small, scattered
throughout Brazil.
“The companies mobilized with
solidarity in a few weeks, forgot commercial

differences and united the
Brazilian aerosol sector in a greater
cause, greater than all of us combined,” said ABAS.
“Additionally, documentation in Portuguese with open .doc
files for easy translation on Google was sent to all international
aerosol associations as a humble contribution in these times of
distress.”
The FEA jury dedicated the award to the entire global aerosol
industry that helped, and continues to help, local communities
during the COVID-19 pandemic. Spray
