permanent materials whose inherent properties do not change, regardless of the number
of times they go through a recycling process.
Steel is one such material and 82.5% of steel packaging is currently recycled in Europe.
Because steel scrap is a necessary component in the process of new steel, every single steel
plant also acts as a recycling plant, effectively meaning there are more than 500 recycling
plants for steel in Europe. This is why steel has a key role to play in helping Europe
achieve the ultimate aims of the Green Deal.
Sustainability is just one of the benefits that steel can offer the aerosol packaging
sector in the years ahead. Just like the aerosol format itself, steel is versatile, easy to use
and well-suited to a vast array of applications. It is also constantly evolving to meet the
changing needs of both consumers and the environment. It is particularly well-suited to
innovative design options, offering enhanced print quality along with the option to use
techniques such as embossing and debossing more effectively to help brands stand out
on the shelf; this makes steel packaging a powerful marketing asset.
Crucially though, steel is impact-resistant, heat-resistant, puncture-resistant, solventresistant
and virtually unbreakable. Steel packaging does not burn as quickly as other
packaging materials, making an appropriate solution for containment of lubricants,
spray paints and other potentially combustible products. Ultimately though, it is steel’s
sustainability that makes it a packaging choice for manufacturers, especially as consumer
concern surrounding the environmental credentials of their purchases increases.
When it comes to recycling, empty aerosols can be collected and recycled along with
all other items of steel packaging. Therefore, choosing steel packaging is one small step
that could mean a giant leap for the European Green Deal. Spray

Green World aerosol cologne from
Lider Kozmetik, Turkish producer of
personal care and home care products,
is available in seven different scents.
Each of the fragrances is reflected in the
special design of its respective aluminum
can. However, the cans were not
only meant to be appreciated individually—
viewing all seven cans together
intentionally forms an overall graphic
concept. The high quality patterns
emphasize the rich detail and sophisticated
finishing. Additionally, the caps
of the aerosol cans are integrated into
the overall concept and each one is in a
similar color to its respective shoulder.
