In response to a critical spike in Dengue Fever in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh,
Dhaka South City Corp. (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon distributed
mosquito repellant aerosol sprays free of charge to 32 educational institutions in
the city.
“The number of patients suffering from Dengue Fever is increasing day by
day. As of now July 2019, over 10,000 dengue patients have been identified,”
said Mayor Khokon. “Being the mayor, I am also an inhabitant of this city. I
too am worried, as I have a family like all other citizens,” he said after inspecting
treatment facilities at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital.
“Mosquitoes do not differentiate between a mayor or minister. They bite everyone.”
According to the Dhaka Tribune, sales of all types of mosquito repellents—aerosol sprays, coils, lotions, gels and liquid vaporizers—have
risen in the capital’s retail shops. A shopkeeper reported sales of 8–10 mosquito repellents a day, up from the 2–3 he was selling at the
beginning of the month.
New Age Bangladesh reported that there have been more than 15,000 reported cases of Dengue Fever recently and 54 deaths, as we go
to press. It also reported that price gouging and store run-outs of mosquito repellant are increasingly common.

Approximately 75% of aluminum beverage cans were collected for recycling in the UK
in 2018, according to figures published by the aluminum recycling body Alupro. According
to Letsrecycle.com, this represents a 3% increase in the can recycling rate compared
to 2017. Overall, the recycling rate for aluminum packaging, which also includes aerosol
cans, foil trays, bottle screw caps and wrapping foil, stands at 52%, Alupro reported,
an increase of 1% from the previous year. Alupro manages several programs funded
by metal packaging manufacturers, reprocessors and brands to encourage consumers to
recycle more.
Specialty chemical manufacturer Clariant released ColorForward 2020, the 14th edition of
its annual color forecasting guide for the plastics industry. While consumer preferences
have been trending toward warmer tones in recent years, Clariant color-trend watchers
see a shift to cooler blues and greens in the palette they developed for 2020. In fact,
of the 20 colors in the latest edition of ColorForward, five of them are different shades
of green. Some are genuine and natural looking, while others seem more artificial or
“digital.” That doesn’t mean the 2020 trend colors don’t include some warmth, says
Judith van Vliet, ColorWorks Designer and a leader of the ColorForward team. There are
a range of reds, yellows and even a couple of oranges. These tend to be bright and, in
many cases translucent or tuned up with special-effect pigments.
