Givaudan is expected to fully acquire German fragrance company
Drom by the third quarter of 2019. Drom is headquartered near
Munich, has manufacturing facilities in China, Germany, U.S.
and Brazil, employs nearly 500 people and has annual sales of approximately
€110 million ($123 million). Terms of the deal were
not disclosed.
Ampro Industries, Inc. has acquired several
brands from Keystone Laboratories, Inc., including
Long Aid, Ultra Glow, Better Braids, Better
Locks, K7 and Apex. These brands will expand
Ampro’s hair and skin care offerings, especially for
textured hair. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Charkit Chemical Co. made two acquisitions:
Custom Ingredients, Inc., maker of custom coldblends
such as CustoBlend, and CA Specialities,
a personal care distribution and sales company in
the Southeastern U.S. Both are based in Chester,
SC and will continue to be led by Founder &
President Cathy Ayer Clark. Terms of the deals
were not disclosed.
Symrise is collaborating with Belgian biotech company
ChemCom to create aromatic substances to neutralize body
odor and unpleasant odors. The findings will help to expand
Symrise’s NeoFresh brand. The research will focus on human
olfactory receptors, using ChemCon’s “Biological Nose” technology
and Symrise’s raw materials.
Fragrance company PHLUR has acquired Texas Beauty Labs,
now called The Goodkind Co. The two companies collaborated
last year to launch Explore Naturals, a line of natural deodorants.
Texas Beauty was founded in 2008 by Mary Berry as an independent
manufacturer of “clean” beauty products. The more than $7
million in funding for the acquisition was provided by Symrise
Inc., investor Next Coast Ventures and South American beauty
company Belcorp.
Superga Invest’s French beauty businesses BPS and Manifesto
Factory have merged to become Superga Beauty. The restructuring
will enhance customers’ time-to-market, help brands become
more agile in a rapidly changing market and offer packaging,
co-packaging and promotional solutions. Superga Invest also recently
purchased a 10,000 square meter facility in Arras, France
and plans to make BPS’ Artois site a pilot plant to fill and
package cosmetic products starting in September. The company
plans to create 80 jobs over the next two years.
Puig has made a minority investment in Loto del Sur, a Colombian
premium beauty company with products made using
locally-sourced botanicals. Puig will support the growth of Loto
del Sur as it expands into international markets. Terms of this
long-term partnership were not disclosed.
Jelmar LLC has acquired the ESPRO Sports Cleaner brand
from Environmental Sports Products (ESPRO), adding a sports
stain remover to the company’s portfolio. Jelmar has placed
ESPRO under its CLR Brands umbrella. ESPRO is currently exclusively
sold at Wal-Mart. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Distributor Univar Solutions Beauty & Personal Care Latin
America and ingredient maker Cargill Beauty have established
a partnership to deliver nature-derived, label-friendly and highly
functional ingredients to the personal care market in South
America. Terms of the partnership were not revealed.
Gelest Inc. purchased Bimax, a manufacturer and marketer
of specialty monomers and polymers, for an undisclosed sum.
Bimax will continue to operate under the Bimax name, and all
employees will be retained in their current roles. The deal will
expand Gelest’s product range, service infrastructure and technical
capabilities for the medical device, life sciences, microelectronics
and personal care markets.
Genomatica has acquired certain assets of the REG Life Sciences
division for an undisclosed amount. Formerly part of
Renewable Energy Group, Inc., the assets will help Genomatica
develop a wider range of sustainable chemicals that are the basis
household and industrial cleaning products, a new platform for
Genomatica, and flavors and fragrances. The company will also
continue a research program about biomass-derived advanced
biofuels with ExxonMobil started by REG LS, along with new
