ity. Separately, BASF’s Care Creations was also recently nominated

Starting Jan. 1, 2019, Germany’s draft guideline for aluminum
recycling published by Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister
(ZSVR, Foundation
Central Agency Packaging
Register), will take
effect. According to §21
of the new packaging
act, licensing fees for
packaging will be based
not only on waste
prevention but also on
packaging recyclability.
Industry groups Gesamtverband
der Aluminiumindustrie
(GDA) and Deutsche Aluminium Verpackung Recycling GmbH
(DAVR) regard this action as a positive start to assess whether packaging
materials are suitable for recycling and keeping aluminum in
the material loop. An infrastructure to sort and recycle aluminum
packaging and foil is already available, said DAVR’s managing director
Hans Jürgen Schmidt. The recycling rate of aluminum packaging
in Germany is at more than 87% and exceeds the 80% level
stipulated by the packaging act for 2019 and is close to the 90%
figure set for 2022.
