Mary Kay Inc. has opened its newest market, Mary Kay Peru, with headquarters in Lima. The expansion
seeks to strengthen Mary Kay’s foundation in Latin America, while providing a flexible business opportunity
to Peruvian entrepreneurs, according to the company. The move follows Mary Kay’s 2015 launch in
neighboring Colombia.
In August, a federal court ruled that the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) cannot require companies to replace potent
heat-trapping chemicals with other substances. The court found that
the EPA exceeded its authority under the Clean Air Act with a 2015
rule that eliminated some uses for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)—
which were previously accepted as alternatives to ozone-depleting

of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia Circuit sent the
rule back to EPA.
The EPA rule in 2015 effectively
banned 38 individual HFCs or HFC
blends in 25 uses in four industrial
sectors: aerosols, air conditioning for
new cars, retail food refrigeration and
foam blowing. Two manufacturers of
HFCs—Mexico-based Mexichem Fluor
and France-based Arkema SA—sued
EPA over the rule.
Plastipak Packaging Inc. announced
that it will make a $15 million capital
investment to expand production
capacity at its 862,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Pineville,
LA. Plastipak will add up to seven production lines to increase
capabilities at the site. This is the second major expansion to the plant
since 2015, when the company announced a $9 million investment
for the addition of three new production lines.
