Pritzker, partial heirs to the Hyatt Hotels fortune and co-founders of private investment firm Pritzker Group, purchased Chicago-based PLZ Aeroscience from private equity firm Olympus Partners. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The duo specializes in purchasing family-owned companies that they can hold for a long period of time, according to statements. Berry Plastics Group, Inc. announced a definitive agreement to acquire Avintiv Inc., producers of specialty materials used in infection prevention, personal care and high-performance applications, from private equity funds managed by the Blackstone Group L.P. The deal is worth $2.45 billion. Ashland Specialty Ingredients announced an agreement to purchase Zeta Fraction technology from AkzoNobel. The patented process isolates efficacious components from living plants and marine sources to produce a range of bio-functional ingredients, according to Ashland, reducing limitations associated with extracts such as shelf-life stability and reproducibility. In an attempt to expand into cosmetic ingredients, International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc. (IFF) announced the completion of its acquisition of Quebec-based Lucas Meyer Cosmetics from Unipex Group for the sum of €283 million ($309 million). BASF and Lanxess reached an agreement consisting mainly of the transfer of Lanxess’s intellectual property for producing high molecular weight polyisobutene (HM PIB). Lanxess will exclusively manufacture HM PIB for BASF, and BASF will market the products under the trade name Oppanol N. Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., a U.S.-based holding company that owns Walgreens, Duane Reade and Boots pharmacies as well as DrugStore.com and Alliance Healthcare, acquired UK-based natural skincare brand Liz Earle from Avon Products, Inc. The deal is worth £140 million ($218 million). Azelis was appointed by Evonik Industries AG as distributor of the performance silica manufacturer’s Aerosil and Sipernat product ranges in the Nordic region (Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland) beginning April 1.
