In 2016, approximately 72 million cars were produced
worldwide—an increase of almost 5% over the previous
year, according to market research firm Statista. China,
Japan, Germany and the U.S. were the largest producers
of passenger vehicles in 2016.
Maintaining these vehicles inside and out is an enormous
industry in itself. For example, there were 531,466,758
Auto, Lube & Industrial aerosol products filled in the U.S. in
2016, according to fillers surveyed by the Consumer Specialty
Products Association (CSPA). Aerosol container manufacturers
reported 500,544,758 Auto, Lube & Industrial containers
filled in 2016 (6,604,024 in aluminium and 493,
950,734 in tinplate steel).
In Europe, Automotive/Industrial accounted
for 7% of all aerosol fillings in 2015, according to
the European Aerosol Federation (FEA).

In the U.S., Auto Care products grew 2.6%
to $14.2 billion in 2015, according to market
research firm The NPD Group. Almost
40% of transactions made in the automotive
aftermarket were for do-it-yourself (DIY)
product purchases. Newer car owners were
more likely to buy appearance products such
as glass cleaners, tire dressing, tire foam and
wax/polish.

To meet this demand, The Love Bug Solution has relaunched
as Bug Shield on Demand. The spray-on, eco-friendly
barrier and cleaning solution to protect vehicles from insect
damage is now available worldwide in an aerosol can. Originally
launched in 2011, the product has been refined to add extra
protection and bug cleaning options to help remove love bugs
and other insects from vehicle hoods, grills or headlights.
“States throughout the U.S. and countries around the world
each have their own insect that wreaks havoc on automobiles,
trucks, RVs and motorcycle paint,” said creator Frank Sheldon.
“Florida and most Gulf Coast States, in particular, have
the dreaded love bug. We previously fine-tuned our original
solution and made it easier to use by putting it in a convenient
aerosol spray can. We found end users worldwide were
protecting their vehicles from a wide range of insects so we
now have rebranded as Bug Shield on Demand to reflect
its universal use against all insects before damage is done,”
Sheldon added.
In addition to bugs, the product provides added protection
against tree sap, dust, paint over-spray, road tar and brake dust.
One can provides up to four applications (depending on the
size of the vehicle). When it dries, Bug Shield on Demand
provides a cellophane-like barrier that protects vehicles from
all types of insects. Bugs are trapped on the solution’s surface
where they can be safely cleaned by simply washing the vehicle.
It requires no masking or taping off of any areas of the vehicle
before applying.
