October 2014 Spray 39 Industry News The Aerosol Manufacturers Association of South Africa (AMA) was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the City of Johannesburg at a special ceremony held at Plastics SA’s Johannesburg offices. The honor was bestowed in response to AMA’s support of Pikitup, the city’s recycling and waste management initiative. The New Jersey Packaging Executives Club (NJPEC) will welcome former NFL center Bart Oates as a special guest speaker October 2 at The Manor in West Orange, NJ. Oates, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers, will give a talk titled “Being on the Winning Team and Overcoming Adversity.” Falcon Safety Products, Inc.’s Branchburg, NJ manufacturing facility received “excellent” and “outstanding” quality ratings from UL and SGS, respectively, as well as the highest possible ratings in an ethical and safety audit from Accordia Global and a responsible sourcing audit from UL. EcoSyn, a two-year, €1 million ($1.29 million) project funded by the European Research Commission and coordinated by Endura S.p.A. to develop new, ecologically-responsible synergists for insecticides, has to date led to the creation of 50 potential solutions, of which five seem “quite promising,” according to Endura. Field trials against agricultural insects, the next step in the research and development process, are expected to begin by early 2015. Plastics recycling organization Recoup launched Pledge 4 Plastics, a plastic packaging industry initiative aimed at doubling recycling levels in the UK over the next five years. The current household recycling rate in the UK for consumer products is only about 58%, according to the organization.
