Marriott International is replacing single-use bottles of shampoo,
conditioner and bath gel in all of its guestroom showers with larger,
pump-topped bottles by December 2020. The move is expected to

year, or 1.7 million pounds of plastic. The larger pump-topped bottle
contains about the same amount of product as 10–12 single-use
bottles, which are not usually recycled.
Unilever’s factories, offices, R&D facilities, data centers, warehouses
and distribution centers in five continents are now powered by 100%
renewable grid electricity due to investments in energy efficiency
programs and on-site solar electricity generation. Thirty-eight percent
of Unilever’s grid electricity is supplied through corporate Power
Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Green electricity tariffs. The rest of
the energy is created through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
purchased by the company. Executives said these actions help the
company to move towards its RE100 goal to become a “carbon neutral”
company by 2030. Unilever said the agreements have counterbalanced
each other, costing the company nothing to implement.
Unilever also announced plans to reduce its use of virgin plastic
by 50% by 2025, specifically by reducing the use of plastic packaging
by more than 100,000 tonnes, accelerating use of recycled plastic and
collecting and processing more plastic packaging than it sells.
