Remember to be an #ActualLivingScientist. Talk about what you do,
who it impacts and why it’s important. Focus on your message first, and
then worry about building your audience. If you build it they will come
(you’ll have to invite them first, though). Seek out others who are doing
things in the science communication (or #scicomm) space for ideas,
encouragement, amplification and collaboration. Experiment!

If you or your bosses or colleagues are afraid of getting
involved in social media or other forms of digital communication
because you’re going to lose control of your
message, it’s important to note that the cat’s already out
of the bag.
Your choice is now deciding if you want to let those
who disagree with you or who are misinformed dominate
online discussions, or if you want your expertise
and experience to matter. It’s imperative for scientists,
business leaders and other experts to be a part of the
conversation. Spray
