Sprayable sunscreen composition
U.S. Patent No. 9,731,151
Honeywell International Inc.
Honeywell International Inc., Morristown, NJ, patented a sunscreen composition that includes a sunscreen active composition, a volatile
oil-phase solvent and a rheology-modifying ethylene copolymer. The sunscreen composition is in the form of a thixotropic gel. The
sunscreen composition may be dispersed to the skin using an aerosol- or non-aerosol-based spray apparatus. The sunscreen composition
is provided to prevent ultraviolet radiation from causing damage to skin.
Sunscreen composition with at least SPF 20
U.S. Patent No. 9,744,111
Mary Kay Inc.
Mary Kay Inc., Addison, TX, has patented a sunscreen composition having a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 20. The composition
contains a combination of zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and butyloctyl salicylate, which are sufficient to impart the SPF of at
least 20 to the composition (wherein the composition does not include any additional physical or chemical UV absorption agents).
It also contains cyclopentasiloxane, neopentyl glycol diheptanoate, butylene glycol, caprylyl methicone, PEG-9 polydimethylsiloxyethyl
dimethicone, glycerin, polyglyceryl-6 polyricinoleate, lauric acid, aluminum hydroxide, potassium sorbate and citric acid.
Composition to treat sunscreen stains in textiles
U.S. Patent No. 9,670,438
Ecolab USA Inc.
Ecolab USA Inc., St. Paul, MN, has patented a method for treating a stain on a textile caused by sunscreens. It is comprised of preparing a
solution by diluting a flowable solid composition with water. The flowable solid composition comprises one or more surfactants comprising
a nonionic surfactant and an anionic surfactant, one or more chelating agents selected from the group consisting of a phosphate,
phosphonate, amino-carboxylate, or combination thereof, a solidification agent comprising fumed silica, and an acid or a salt thereof. The
acid is different from the chelating agent and is selected from the group consisting of glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, formic acid, acetic
acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, gluconic acid, itaconic acid, trichloroacetic acid, benzoic acid, urea hydrochloride
and combinations thereof. The solution is applied to the textile contaminated with sunscreen comprising avobenzone, oxybenzone or
a combination thereof. The textile is then rinsed.
Octocrylene-free sunscreen with low stickiness
U.S. Patent No. 9,808,410
Beiersdorf AG
Beiersdorf AG, Hamburg, Germany, has patented a sunscreen composition that contains 4-(tert-butyl)-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane;
2,4,6-trisanilino(p-carbo-2'-ethyl-1'-hexyloxy)-1,3,5-triazine (INCI: Ethylhexyl triazone); 2,4-bis{4-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-2-hydroxyphenyl}-6-(4-
methoxyphenyl)-1,3 ,5-triazine (INCI: Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine); and 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid and/or
one or more salts of 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid. The composition does not contain 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (INCI:
Oxybenzone) or ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI: Octocrylene).
High-UV protection, alcohol-free clear sunscreen
U.S. Patent No. 9,820,920
L’Oréal Paris
L’Oréal Paris has patented a process for making a sunscreen composition that is comprised of a combination of an aqueous phase, an oil
phase comprising at least one cosmetically acceptable oil, at least one sunscreen active, an emulsifier system comprising at least one ionic
surfactant, at least one nonionic surfactant having a hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) of greater than or equal to about 14 and at least
one nonionic surfactant having an HLB of less than or equal to about 10. The sunscreen composition has approximately 12% to about
25% by weight sunscreen active or 25-40% by weight sunscreen active, based on the total weight of the composition. The composition is
a stable oil-in-water emulsion containing oil droplets having an average particle size of from about 100 to 15nm, is denatured alcohol-free,
appears semi-transparent to transparent upon application and is stable.
