Ball Corp. recently won a 2016 Asia CanTech Award from CanTech International for its ITC Engage aluminum aerosol deodorant can. ITC introduced Engage deodorants in deep body-shaped aluminum aerosol cans to differentiate the brand from the competition and to position Engage deodorants as a premium product in the Indian deodorant market. Ball’s aluminum aerosol packaging was chosen to convey the desired brand attributes to the consumer. The 53-millimeter diameter ITC Engage cans were produced in Ball Aerocan’s Ahmedabad, India facility, where an additional line will be added in the fourth quarter of 2017. SC Johnson (SCJ) announced an acre-for-acre matching challenge to help protect the Amazon rainforest. The challenge is part of SCJ’s partnership with Conservation International (CI) to support the new virtual reality film Under the Canopy. Beyond sponsoring the film’s distribution, SCJ pledges that, for every acre of rainforest protected through the CI donation page, the company will provide an acre-for-acre match. “Eight percent of the Amazon rainforest has already been lost to deforestation. We cannot let this continue. The consequences for people and the planet would be devastating,” noted SCJ Chairman & CEO Fisk Johnson. “I hope many people will watch the film, experience the amazing Amazon, and be inspired as I am to make an impact for future generations.” Protecting an acre of tropical forest through CI costs $25. SCJ will match donations up to 5,000 acres. Donations can be made at www.conservation.org/protect. CI’s film, Under the Canopy, allows viewers to experience the wonder of the Amazon in 360-degree virtual reality. The film highlights Amazonia’s role as the world’s largest watershed to the fact that its trees absorb carbon and help regulate climate. It can be viewed online at www.conservation.org/canopy, and those with virtual reality headsets can experience the immersive VR version via the JauntVR app. To help shed light on global water shortages, Colgate-Palmolive Co. aired its award-winning “Save Water” communication on World Water Day (March 22) in over 70 countries as part of the company’s global efforts to expand its #EveryDropCounts campaign. Originally developed in 2014 to support Colgate’s global sustainability commitment to “Making Every Drop of Water Count,” the video communication illustrates how a seemingly small act, such as turning off the faucet while brushing one’s teeth, can make a big difference. Since then, this message has been shared in countries around the world, including via an ad during Super Bowl 50 in the U.S., and has continued to gain consumer recognition in social media, where it has been viewed millions of times. Colgate plans to further expand its campaign by adding the “Save Water” message to packaging for its soaps and cleaning products, in addition to its existing messages on the company’s toothpaste and toothbrush packaging. In 2015 and 2016, Colgate was named to the inaugural CDP Water A List, one of only eight global companies recognized as corporate leaders in water conservation.
