Industry News BWAY Corp., a Stone Canyon Industries company and North American manufacturer of rigid metal, aerosol and plastic containers, announced that it completed the acquisition of the assets and certain liabilities of Ball Corp.’s metal packaging business located in Hubbard, OH. The facility produces certain general line, household products and specialty metal containers. Berry Plastics Group, Inc. announced that it is changing its name to Berry Global Group, Inc. In addition, Berry Plastics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Berry Plastics Group, Inc., will change its name to Berry Global, Inc. Both name changes will be effective April 13. Shiseido Company, Limited has introduced a pilot program deploying industrial humanoid robots on the assembly lines of personal care products at its Kakegawa, Japan factory, beginning in March 2017. In this factory, one human worker and two humanoid robots work together to assemble various parts of varied shapes and materials, delivering finished products. While humanoid robots cover the procedures that are harder to be automated with conventional machines and existing industrial robots, the human worker focuses on inspection of minor defects such as scratches. The American Chemistry Council (ACC) reported that U.S. specialty chemicals market volumes rose a strong 0.6 percent in February. This follows an upwardly revised 0.4% gain in January. Volumes have generally been moving up since May of 2016. The investment will expand Sederma’s innovation and production capacity in beauty active ingredients. Gattefossé has adopted Mass Balance RSPO (Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil) certification.The company has been a member of RSPO, which supports cooperatives and producers of sustainable palm oil, since 2010. Research, consulting and training firm Organic Monitor has relaunched as Ecovia Intelligence. The re-branding reflects the broadening range of the organization’s activities, it said, encompassing market research, business consulting, technical research, seminars and workshops. Wacker Chemie AG is strengthening its presence in Japan and has opened a new Wacker Academy training center in Tsukuba, near Tokyo. The center primarily offers seminars on silicone products for the personal care, automotive, sealant and electronics. With the addition of the Wacker Academy, the site now combines production, R&D, application technology and training under one roof.
