BAMA appoints new Chairman, has dynamic start to 2016... TThe British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) has had an active 2016 so far. On April 11, Sebastian Alvarez of Unilever UK became Chairman, having previously held the role of Vice Chairman of the Association. He has been a member of the BAMA Board since 2009. He succeeded Grant Coupland, who had been Chairman for the past two years. Coupland led BAMA through a number of important changes, not least the appointment of its new Chief Executive, Patrick Heskins, who took up post in August 2015. “The Secretariat and Executive Committee are grateful to Grant for all his hard work for the Association, its membership and the industry during his tenure,” said Alvarez. “I am honored to be appointed Chairman and work with the Secretariat. One of my key objectives is to ensure we stay informed, as an industry, of new legislation and help shape it where possible. I also want to make sure that the next generation is aware of the fantastic career opportunities within the aerosol sector. We have identified the areas we wish to develop as an industry and I am looking forward to working with the BAMA team and the rest of the Executive Committee to help our Members implement these initiatives”. The new Vice Chairman will be announced later in the Spring. BAMA joins All Party Manufacturing Group BAMA joined the All Party Manufacturing Group (APMG), organized by Policy Connect. APMG is a crossparty coalition of Parliamentarians and manufacturing industry organizations that work to develop new industrial policy ideas, critique existing government decision-making around manufacturing, communicate within Parliament the importance of a well-balanced productive economy and help the manufacturing community better engage with the policy process. “I believe joining the APMG will give us a route to having a voice in Parliament and allow us to engage with members of Parliament (MPs) who are interested in UK manufacturing,” said Patrick Heskins, Chief Executive of BAMA. “The Group has commissioned and published a number of reports on supply chain issues, long term strategic thinking, sustainability and currently have a campaign, called ‘Exported by Britain,’ which I believe the aerosol industry can contribute to with our strong export credentials.” BAMA is already one of the first points of contact for information and research about the aerosol sector, 30 Spray May 2016 according to the organization, but joining this group will bring the Secretariat and its members the added benefit of providing speaking opportunities within the events calendar, which include topics such as UK Manufacturing, Making British Manufacturing Sustainable and Exported by Britain.
