The contract filling industry had much to report over the
past 12 months. SPRAY asked fillers to inform our readers
of the latest in facility updates and product innovations.
In 2018, Tri-Pac, Inc. added three classified clean rooms for
the filling and compounding of over-the-counter (OTC) medical
devices and prestige personal care products in a brand new,
60,000 sq. ft facility in South Bend, IN. Tri-Pac said it is involved
with the manufacture and development of numerous and innovative
products that will see fruition in 2019–2020.
Additionally, the company has successfully upgraded its Quality
Systems to encompass the current good manufacturing practices
as dictated by the 21 CFR. Tri-Pac plans to continue its “Customer
focused, Quality Driven” policy and invest in continuous
improvement through upgrading facilities, systems, processes,
people and customer service.
Formulated Solutions, Largo, FL, installed a new MBC BOV
filler and new MBC One-Up Plastic Aerosol/BOV filler in 2018.
Plans for 2019 include a new 30,000 gallon propellant tank in
its onsite tank farm. The contract filler is also in the process of
installing full electronic label verification (ELV) and full scale optical

character recognition (OCR). The building of a 10,000 sq ft
R&D lab expansion is also slated for 2019, as well as installation
of three new natural gas generators that will provide enough 24/7
standby energy to power the entire facility in the case of power
loss. Formulated Solutions is currently implementing Six Sigma
processes in aerosols to increase efficiency and throughput, as well
as reduce change time.
“Although we cannot give details, we are on track to roll out
our eN2fused ‘Whipped Lotion’ technology across a range of
OTC products,” said Scott Carpenter, Formulated Solutions VP
of Marketing & Partner Innovation. “These products will mark a
significant improvement in application experience of topical products
including those intended for irritated and wounded skin.”
In December 2018, Precise Packaging LLC, Fall River, MA
added a new aerosol production line to further increase capacity/
capabilities and allow for future growth, said Shaun Gaus, President
& CEO, Precise Packaging.
The company also opened a new 18,000 sq. ft. contract
manufacturing facility in January 2019—less than a mile from its
headquarters—to further increase capacity/capabilities and allow
for future growth. The initial focus of the facility is on specialty
liquid and liquid/SAP beads products.
“Precise Packaging also installed a new high-speed liquid
filling line and shrink sleever in our new facility,” said Gaus. “Additionally,
we purchased a new, automated shrink bundler, which
will offer our customers
additional options for shrink
wrapping their products in a
cost-effective manner.”

The most noteworthy
development
for Cortec Spray Technologies in 2018 was its
expansion of bio-based product offerings for MRO
(Maintenance, Repair, Operations) use, said Julie
