Spray Patterns AVA CARIDAD Editorial Director Representing the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA), the National Aerosol Association (NAA) and the Western Aerosol Information Bureau (WAIB), Steve Sanchez of Aeropres, Mike Thaete of Aptar B&H and Roger Vanderlaan of Shield Packaging of California recently attended two meetings in Sacramento,CA. The first meeting was with California State Senator Connie Leyva, who serves on a number of committees including serving as Democratic Caucus Chair of the California State Senate. Senator Leyva is a lifelong activist for working people and families in California. The group also met with Senator Leyva in July of 2016 and will continue to push its message that the aerosol industry “makes lives better.” The second stop was at a California Manufacturers & Technology Associations (CMTA) event welcoming the new California Legislature, where the aerosol group met with California legislators and staff, as well as California Senator Ted Gaines, who is working on reducing taxes on business in the state. CMTA shares many of the same challenges as the aerosol industry and, according to the WAIB, has become a valuable partner along with CSPA and NAA in providing a unified voice with shared activism in the California Legislature and the California Regulatory environment. 46 Spray June 2017 The 2nd Perfumed Plume Awards for creative fragrance journalism were held in April at the Society of Illustrators in New York City. In an effort to share its automation expertise with the manufacturing professionals of tomorrow, SussexIM, a Wisconsin-based, full-service provider of plastic products, donated a cosmetic packaging assembly machine to nearby Waukesha County Technical College’s (WCTC) Tool & Die and Injection Mold Setup Apprenticeship program. The machine was immediately integrated into the school’s Automated Systems Technology syllabus. Acknowledging the role of robotics in today’s manufacturing landscape, Dan Neuwirth, SussexIM’s Director of Manufacturing Engineering, said, “There is always a need for talented people who can diagnose and troubleshoot automated systems in our plant. This is the future, and this is how we need to train tomorrow’s professionals.” Pictured (L to R) R.J.
