The ideal candidate will have the following skills, characteristics and competencies: • Bachelors or higher degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or comparable degree. • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in product development of institutional and industrial aerosol and non-aerosol products. Products would include cleaners, disinfectants, deodorants, industrial maintenance and janitorial products. • Be familiar with aerosol product technology and chemical blending processes. • Have strong technical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills. • Take a hands on approach to product development, troubleshooting • Understanding of regulatory issues as they relate to chemical products including VOC regulations, CARB, pesticides. • Motivated individual capable of working in a fast-paced environment and capable of setting goals and managing shifting priorities. • Prior management experience with degreed chemists and QA technicians. Primary responsibilities to include: • Manage lab staff composed of degreed chemists and QA technicians • Assist with product development as directed by Management • Manage regulatory compliance of Pesticides, RCRA, VOC compliance, RMP, SPCC, Stormwater, TRI, Tier II at the local, state and federal levels • Investigate and implement product specification changes as needed to address internal and external manufacturing challenges and quality • Investigate Quality events as needed to improve overall product quality and insure compliance with specifications. • Assist with review of raw materials to improve quality, product performance, reduce costs and meet regulatory requirements. Senior Scientist II Personal Care Formulator Position Summary This Senior Scientist II Personal Care formulator with specific focus on aerosolized products will play an integral role in the department and will work with a low level of supervision and direction of supervisor. Preferred candidate must demonstrate strong understanding of the chemistry of formulations, ingredients and industry regulations and requirements. This position will also be highly engaged in research activities to develop innovative technology and application in products. Primary Accountabilities • Formulate aerosol styling products: with low level of supervision. Conduct all developmental activities with high quality, complying with departmental procedures, GMP and SOP requirements. • Keep abreast of new raw materials, formulation techniques and testing methodologies in the aerosol industry. Will engage in research activities to develop innovative products and identify new methodologies. • Conduct stability studies on styling formulations when necessary and keep track of all project related stabilities handled by others on assigned projects. Responsible for maintaining good laboratory records in the notebook and building strong working knowledge of in-house systems pertinent to project work. • Support manufacturing with production issues when appropriate. • Participate in cross-functional teams. Communicate well with the Marketing and Private Label team members, provide timely updates and make recommendations for product improvements. Required Qualifications • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or related field with 5+ years of haircare formulation experience or Masters Degree with 3-5 years of haircare formulation experience. • Hair Care Product development skills. • Aerosol product development skills are desired.
