Aerosols in Europe
Ava Caridad, Editorial Director
There is much to consider when broaching
a topic as broad as “The European
Aerosol Market.” Aerosol products,
as we all know, are multi-faceted and
neither their production nor their marketing falls
into solely one category. Factor in that there are 44
countries currently comprising Europe (according
to the United Nations) and you’ve got a myriad of
regulatory, labeling, customs, transport and export
considerations. Throw in varying sustainability initiatives,
differing economies and language barriers
and you have a complex scenario. Not that this is a
bad thing. The European aerosol market continues
to thrive, not despite its diversity, but because of its
diversity.
In order to provide a glimpse into the aerosol market
in Europe, SPRAY spoke to experts concerning
multiple aspects of production and sustainability
in this important part of the world. For European
aerosol statistics, turn to page 22.

Circular Economy in the
European Union
Alain D’haese, European Aerosol Federation (FEA) Secretary General
As part of its continuous effort to transform EU’s economy
into a more sustainable one and to implement its ambitious
Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Commission
adopted in January 2018 a new set of measures known as the
2018 Circular Economy Package, including inter alia:
• An EU Strategy for Plastics to transform the way plastics and
plastics products are
designed, produced,
used and recycled.
By 2030, all plastic
packaging should be
recyclable. This strategy
directly impacts
the discussion on plastic aerosols. In early 2018, FEA joined
with Petcore Europe to create a Plastic Aerosol Recycling
Special Industry Group to understand and to promote the
recycling of PET aerosols in the context of this strategy. Additionally,
major brand owners signed the Ellen MacArthur’s
New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, and/or submitted
voluntary pledges on recycled plastics.
