have 10% recycled content in all plastic, eliminate problematic or
unnecessary plastic packaging and take action to move towards reuse
models, all by 2025. Albéa has already invented packaging with lower
environmental footprint through use of Life-Cycle Analysis software,
eco-design guidelines, plastic weight reduction, recycling ability, use
of post-consumer recycled and bio-based plastics as well as other
partnerships with recycling industries and associations.
The Lubrizol Corp. plans to invest more than $25 million in its
Calvert City, KY manufacturing facility to meet increasing customer
demand for Carbopol polymers and Pemulen polymeric emulsifiers.
This investment follows a recent $10 million laboratory expansion at
the same location.
Tata Steel’s European operations have partnered with Nouryon and
the Port of Amsterdam to develop a green hydrogen cluster in Europe.
The companies will explore the feasibility of a water electrolysis
facility to produce hydrogen and oxygen at Tata Steel’s IJmuiden
steelworks in The Netherlands. Using renewable electricity, the plant
would save up to 350,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. This
initiative is part of Tata Steel’s ambition to become carbon neutral
in Europe by 2050 and includes the €75 million ($85.21 million)
investment and launch of a new reactor and steel production process
in IJmuiden, The Netherlands as well as a pilot project with Dow
Chemical to convert carbon monoxide into naphtha.
Symrise is partnering with IBM Research to develop a method to
use artificial intelligence (AI) to create perfumes based on digital fragrance
models. Called Philyra, its first project will be the creation of
two fragrances for O Boticario for 2019. Philyra utilizes a data-driven
approach and accesses a data bank of fragrance formulas, data about
fragrance families (fruity, oriental or flowery) and historical data.
Sussex IM has unveiled the “Our SIM” initiative to become a fullyautomated
supplier of plastic products for both Business-to-Business
and Business-to-Customers through investments in expansions,
streamlined supply chain, corporate alliances and new internal processes.
Recent changes include a new 84,000 sq ft injection molding
facility in Sussex, WI and a strategic alliance with Toly.
