People in the News George Buckland was appointed VP of Sales & Marketing for the North America Aerosol Division of Crown Cork & Seal USA, Inc., effective Nov. 9. He will report directly to Andy Bolton, President Crown Aerosol, North America and work alongside Brad Dahlgren, who is planning his retirement in the coming year. Most recently, Buckland worked as Managing Director of Sales for DS Containers; prior to that he was with AET Films, Inc. and US Can Co. He has been serving as President and Board Member of the National Aerosol Association (NAA) since 2012, and has also been working as an Executive for the Association for Consumer Education (ACE). Toyo & Deutsche Aerosol GmbH announced that Lars Fischer has joined the company as Head of Sales, Marketing & Supply Chain, effective Sept. 1. Givaudan announced the appointments of Chris Thoen as Head of Global Science & Technology and Willem Mutsaerts as Head of Global Procurement. Effective immediately, both will become members of the Executive Committee. Thoen will set the company’s long-term innovation strategy and leverage internal and external capabilities across Flavors & Fragrances. Mutsaerts will develop innovative sourcing strategies, further enhance the responsible sourcing program and secure the long-term supply of critical raw materials. Fischer Thoen Mutsaerts Buckland Obituary Byron Lapin died on Nov. 10 at age 73. Lapin was Chairman & CEO of Clayton Corp., a Missouri-based global supplier of valves and plastic components to the aerosol industry. Lapin was the son of the late Florence Lapin and Aaron “Bunny” Lapin, who founded Clayton Corp. and invented Reddi-wip, the first whipped cream available in an aerosol can, in 1948. The Lapin family still owns the company. Byron Lapin is survived by his wife Sharon and sister Linda Levine. Services were held Nov. 13 in St. Louis, MO.
