Industry News The Procter & Gamble Co. (P&G) recently broke ground on a new $500 million plant near Martinsburg, WV. Only the second plant built by P&G in the U.S. since 1971, it is expected to open in 2017 and employ 700 fulltime workers by 2019. One of the largest economic development projects in the state’s history, according to P&G, it is providing approximately 1,000 temporary construction jobs. The over 1,000,000 sq ft P&G facility will span 458 acres and manufacture multiple yet-unspecified brands. S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. (SCJ) is planning a $50–$80 million office modernization project. The consumer products manufacturer announced the global headquarters campus modernization in Racine, WI, as well as the relocation of 175 positions over the next two years to a new Chicago office at a location yet to be determined. SCJ will not eliminate any jobs with the expansion to Chicago. The modernization will not affect the company’s two famous Frank Lloyd Wright-designed buildings, but will involve interior and exterior upgrades to several other buildings on the campus. The renovations, which are expected to begin in Spring 2016 and take two years to complete, will not disrupt tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Earlier this year, SCJ bought the former Sealed Air building in Mount Pleasant, WI for $28 million and plans to move employees into the 280,000-square-foot facility in Spring 2016, when it will be renamed the Sam Johnson Campus. Coty Inc. announced plans to relocate its executive management offices to London, but will remain incorporated in Delaware and have its stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange, after the merger with Procter & Gamble’s specialty beauty business is completed. Coty said the move to London will bring its executives, including the offices of the Chairman and CEO, Finance and Human Resources, closer to its key markets around the world. Honeywell announced that increasing global adoption of its range of low-globalwarming potential (GWP) products will reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by an equivalent of 475 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2025, the equivalent to removing 100 million cars from the road for one year. The projections represent an increase of 36% over projections the company made a year ago when it committed to reducing the production of high- GWP hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) used in applications ranging from aerosols to refrigeration to air conditioning. Altachem NV, manufacturer of valves and accessories for polyurethane foam applications, has earned ISO 9001:2008 certification and is the latest ISO 9001-certified facility in the Lindal Group family. The 11,000-square-meter facility will open in 2016 and house nearly 200 scientists, engineers and business leaders. The new DuPont Singapore headquarters will focus on delivering new innovations tailored to meet the needs of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) marketplace.
