December 2015 Spray 41 Packaging innovations Constellium N. V. launched Aeral, a new aluminum solution designed for the production of aerosol containers using the Drawn & Ironed (D&I) technology that is currently used to produce beverage cans. Constellium’s Aeral allows a minimum of 30% weight savings compared to traditional impact extruded containers, all while maintaining the same level of performance in terms of resistance to pressure and ductility. It is developed from a specific alloy that can be used efficiently throughout the D&I can-making process, including the specific necking operation, while meeting the pressure resistance and aesthetical requirements of cosmetics companies. The Pochet Group and Samhwa Plastic have partnered to unveil Pure Drop, an airless pump that combines technology and performance with the freedom to customize products to suit individual needs in the luxury Skin Care sector. It helps ensure the protection of skin care formulas facing increasingly strict regulations and the growing expectations of consumers. WestRock Co. announced the launch of the HiMark CR Nasal Pump. The new packaging design was developed using patient insights and integrates safety features that are both child-resistant (CR) and patient-centric. It was developed in advance of new U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations requiring CR packaging for any over-the-counter or prescription drug products containing imidazolines. These are found in commonly used nasal sprays and eye drops that can cause serious adverse reactions in children when accidentally ingested. Specific features based on consumer research include on-pack visual and tactile cues that communicate how to use the package; use of a senior-friendly, simple range of motion to open the pump; audible indication and wiggle-free closure to let users know they’ve closed the bottle securely; and integration of the CR feature into the pump versus the removable cap, preventing access to the medication even if the over cap is left off or lost. DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers launched a new grade DuPontT Surlyn PC-2200 to offer brands more freedom in the design of packaging and to push the limits of creativity. With Surlyn PC-2200, designers working for perfume and cosmetics brands can explore other creative avenues to develop more daring caps and bottles. It is also designed to expand the range of over-molded decorative effects available such as textile decoration, metallic labels and other decorative technologies. It protects the decoration it covers and transforms each element thanks to the high gloss and depth of color provided while playing on the thicknesses of the over-molding. Mega Airless has created new lacquering effects for its standard dispensers. It offers velvety Soft Touch finishing on bottles and caps for all of its dispenser and cap ranges. The company now also provides new decorative finishing options with tactile and visual effects, such as Rough Stone that effect evokes strength and resistance to time, a suitable fit for a men’s skincare line. The Crackle effect is available in several shades. As it is transparent, the effect allows the user to see the formula inside the bottle. It also plays on the colors of the pack and its contents. Additional printing is possible before or after the lacquer is applied. Wet effect evokes freshness. Droplets appear on the surface with a slight relief effect. This option is a good fit for purifying skincare ranges, sun care or lotions with floral fragrances. Printing is possible before lacquering.
