Diluted to a solution of 96% water, it surpasses the cleaning and solvency power of products containing up to 40% petroleum-based solvents and requires a low use level, less dwell time and less mechanical action. It covers a wide range of applications, from household to industrial to institutional. Various dilutions can produce products for the home market that clean glass, carpet and multiple surfaces, and remove stains left by tar and permanent markers. More concentrated solutions produce products for the industrial market that clean metal parts, remove crude oil stains, wash oil field rigs and strip latex. There are changes afoot with the implementation of WHMIS 2015, and companies need to ensure that they have authored WHMIS 2015 SDS and labels before June 2017. U.S. companies cannot just use U.S. documents in Canada, as significant differences still exist between the two systems. If there are WHMIS 2015 products in the workplace, workers must be trained in the new system. If there are still WHMIS 1988 products in the workplace, that training must continue. U.S. experience shows that deadlines sneak up on you and companies will not want to leave compliance until the last minute. Kieran Callahan, Business Development Manager, UL I&I, presented Sustainability Report Cards: What’s Hot & What’s Not? There are reasons for the rapid expansion of sustainability programs among all types of retailers, including the globalization of supply chains; legislative failure; advocacy campaigns by non-government agencies (NGOs); consumer demand for transparency and safe products; social media and the rapid spread of information; sustainability makes business sense and saves money; and because sustainability programs enhance brand building and increase sales opportunities. (For more on Callahan’s presentation, see Dollars & Sense on p. 15). Spray
