BAMA Awards Honor The winning entries in the 2015 BAMA Awards were announced in October at the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) annual dinner held at The Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield, UK. Following are the winners, which were selected by a panel of independent industry. Aerosol of the Year PZ Cussons (UK) Limited and Swallowfield plc won for Imperial Leather Foamburst Shower Gel—the first plastic aerosol shower gel, according to BAMA. It was described by the judges as having “appeal in the shower” and “a warmer touch.” The concept was developed jointly 22 Spray December 2015 by cosmetics and beauty products manufacturer, Swallowfield and consumer goods business, PZ Cussons (UK) Limited. The bagon valve aerosol product is contained within a plastic container and uses plastic components. The concept arose from a market study that indicated a wider consumer base was accustomed to using plastic bottles in the shower. The runner up was Nordictan in the SprayPET plastic aerosol container from Plastipak Packaging (formerly APPE). Nordictan is a self-tanning product that has been launched in the UK and Scandinavia. Innovation The Innovation award winner was Aptar Beauty + Home for the Glide hoodless accessory, deemed by the judges as “Ergonomic, intuitive, simple in use —good for older people.” Glide is designed for one-hand dispensing and can be un-locked with a sideward movement of the thumb and actuated with the index finger. The grooved surface of the generous finger pad enhances ease-of-use. Glide fits on the industry standard 1-inch mounting cup. Multiple spray insert options are available, including an antiperspirant version. Runner up was Cascade Technologies Ltd for its Dynamic Leak Rate Analyzer. The system’s sensitivity is scalable to any level via configurable accumulation time, i.e. cans with leak rates from 0.2 mg/day (73 mg/year) to gross leakers can be detected and analyzed within 60 seconds. The system is capable of distinguishing the source of leaks from either the stem or crimp of an aerosol can. Special Recognition Award BAMA presented its 2015 Special Recognition Award to Nigel Jackson of SPRAYAID. “I have known Nigel for many years, as a competitor in the valve industry, as a supplier and as a colleague at BAMA,” said Patrick Heskins, CEO of BAMA. “To describe Nigel as one of the pillars of the industry is probably an understatement. In all the years I have known him, his knowledge, expertise, diligence and understanding of the industry made him a tough guy to compete with but an even better person to work with. He is one of the most inspirational people in this industry of ours. I look forward to working with Nigel at BAMA, especially as he enters a new phase of his professional life with his own consultancy business.” Pictured L to R: Heskins, Jackson and BAMA Awards’ guest comedian, Dominic Holland
