technology, which uses the packaged product instead of
compressed air to simultaneously form and fill containers.
In this case, the hand soap essentially forms its
own rigid PET container using the LiquiForm process.
By combining the forming and filling into one step, the
process helps eliminate costs associated with the equipment
and energy of the traditional blow molding process
along with the handling, transport and warehousing of
empty containers. Amcor partnered with Greenblendz,
a Michigan-based co-packer and developer of private
label, environmentally-friendly consumer products, to
develop and commercialize packaging for the Nature’s
Promise brand of hand soap. The bottle, which contains
50% post-consumer recycled content, uses the existing
closure and label.
The future belongs to Indies
What’s the next trend for personal care and beauty
products in a spray? Highly focused on filling market
gaps and adapting to today’s increasingly demanding
consumers, products from independent companies
(“indies”) will continue to revolutionize the beauty
industry, according to market research company Kline
& Co. Beauty indie brands will continue to contribute
to industry growth with double- to triple-digit gains.
Unique concepts, authentic stories, innovative ideas,
customized solutions and exotic ingredients, all supported
by digital sales, are behind the success story of indie
brands. Heightened consumer interest in these focused,
fine-tuned beauty brands brings these niche players into
the spotlight. While many overnight successes have been
acquired by major companies, new brands have become
the hot topic in beauty with their audience-focused approach
to product and brand development.
Indies speak to the consumer’s heart in ways hard
to touch by established marketers, said Kline & Co. The
growing generation, which is absorbed in selfies and influencing
new trends, is helping these indies thrive with
their cult-like social media following and quest to experiment
with varying looks and styles.
A fundamental shift
Mintel predicts that the beauty and personal care market
will experience a fundamental shift during 2018.
“In the coming year and beyond, the beauty industry
will navigate the conflicting demands of the ‘naturalshungry’
consumer and shrinking natural resources. It
will be through harnessing biotech advantages that a
new generation of enhanced natural products is created,”
explained Mintel’s Vivienne Rudd.
“Simply selling a great beauty product will no longer
be enough; brands must have personality and purpose
that align with consumers’ own beliefs in order to win
them over.” Spray
