R.W. Beckett to Buy Fida
R.W. Beckett Corp. is
purchasing Venice, Italybased
Fida (Fabbrica ltaliana
Dispositivi d’Accensione), a
maker of ignition devices, for
an undisclosed sum. Fida was
founded in 1945 and has been
run by two generations of the
Graziati family. Francesco De
Simone will continue in his role as Fida’s Managing
Director.

NYPGA Names Whitney
Exec Dir, Calls for Papers
New York Propane Gas Association
(NYPGA) has hired Bruce Whitney
as its new Executive Director as
of Aug. 14. Whitney previously
served as Director of Marketing at
Ray Murray Inc., and prior, Senior
Director at Unitil’s Usource energy
management and procurement
Whitney
division. Whitney has long been involved with NYPGA
as a member, show exhibitor and active participant in
the Legislative Committee.
In other news, NYPGA has issued a call for
presentations for the NYPGA Fall Conference, set
for Oct. 21–22 at the Del Lago Resort & Casino
in Waterloo, NY. Topics relating to the Propane
Industry, Compliance, Safety, Business Practices,
Finance, Marketing and Health Care are all welcome.

George Santa 1928-1919
Stephen “George” Santa, age 91 and member of
the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association
(CEMA), passed away
on August 16. Born in
Bridgeport, CT, Santa
graduated Stratford High
School 1946 and served
two tours of duty in the
U.S. Marine Corps. He also
played semi-professional
football for the Stratford
Rockets. With his three
brothers, Santa led his
family’s company, Santa Energy, for 30 years
before becoming Chairman of the Board, and
lastly, Director Emeritus.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Barbara Tracy
Santa, Santa is survived by his four children,
Stephen of Colorado Springs, CO; Georgianne
Sheehy of Arlington, VA; Rosalyn Porter of
Alexandria, VA; Edward of Huntington, CT; two
brothers, Donald and John, sister Stephaine De
Forest, nine grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his brother,
Norman Santa.
Santa was part of the Independent Connecicut
Petroleum Association, the New England
Fuel Institute, Bridgeport Area Foundation,
Bridgeport Regional Business Council, United
Way of Eastern Fairfield County, Bridgeport
Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus as well as
memberships in the Algonquin Club and the
Brooklawn Country Club.
